In Front Of The Lens: Our Bonfire Engagement Photographs

A few weeks before our wedding, our good friend Mikey Valdes gave us an amazing early present: an Engagement Session. We headed up to Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver and spent a few hours roasting marshmellows, drinking wine, playing music and freezing our feet in the water (ok, I was freezing, Cec was fine). Believe it or not, this was the first time both Cec and I were in front of another photographer’s camera for a significant period of time. Here are a few of our favourite images from the session!

Cec and I spent many a summer evening sitting around a bonfire with friends—so we thought it would be fun to include one in our session!

We always love it when our couples bring along fun props to incorporate into their shoot.  Since I grew up playing a lot of music, I brought along my first guitar. She’s not the easiest to play, but she’s still my favourite.undefined

Mikey did a great job framing this—I really like how the smoke from our fire fills the top right portion of the image.

A glass of wine each probably made us more willing subjects =)undefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

After putting the bonfire out, we did a quick wardrobe change and headed down the path to the main beach.undefinedundefined

I dunno who thought that wandering into the ocean would be a good idea…it was seriously cold!undefinedundefined

Mikey and I have been friends since we were eight years old—and he’s known Cecily since the eight grade. We played Warhammer when we were kids, rocked out in a band when we were teenagers and picked up our cameras in the same year. Since then he’s gained some serious skills (and has helped me to become a better photographer on more than one occasion). I highly recommend you check out his new website to see selections of his fine-art photography (all film stuff). Thanks a lot for these photographs, Mikey—they made our wedding guest book awesome =)
