Ami and Cecily Sanyal

Us in high school

We met in band class in a small high school in North Vancouver. Ami played the trombone and Cecily played a mean trumpet. After some awkward teenage flirting, we finally admitted we were into each other and started dating. Over the next several years we went to countless concerts, travelled three continents, discovered a passion for photography and had photos published internationally (including Forbes, Reader’s Digest and more).

We’d been shooting weddings since 2008 and were finally tying the knot ourselves. An amazing opportunity for travel came up and we decided to plan our wedding in just three months (as opposed to the full year we had originally counted on). It was a crazy whirlwind.

Thankfully, the wedding ended up being fantastic. Still, we’d walked in our clients’ shoes, and we discovered the parts of wedding planning that just. plain. sucked. We found out how much of an impact a caring, experienced wedding professional can make on the whole process.

After our wedding we sat down together and thought about our future clients. We wanted to deliver more than just amazing wedding photos: we vowed to make Ambrosia Photography’s couples feel like stress-free VIPs.

We became boutique wedding photographers, only accepting 10-12 weddings per year (while many photographers accept 25-50+). This allows us to give the concierge-style customer service our clients deserve. We produce in-depth guides on wedding photography, we connect couples to the best wedding vendors and we pay attention to little details (like bringing couples a cup of calming tea the morning of the big day).
